Where to find Peter Skrzynecki’s poems?

Well, I can’t be the only tutor who struggled to find Peter Skrzynecki’s poems (for Area of Study: Belonging) online right?

Most students get the set of poems from their teachers, but for tutors (and students who lose their copy), here are some quick links to where you can the poems online. I’ve also uploaded a big PDF file with 4 of the set poems.

Links to the poems:

The reason why it’s so hard to find Skrzynecki’s poems online is because of some Australian copyright issue, I believe. It ‘s a lot easier to Immigrants at Central Station, 1951, Feliks Skrzynecki and Postcard (and notes about them) online – those were used in the pre-2009’s Area of Study: Journeys.

I did Peter Skrzynecki’s poems for the HSC in 2002. If only we had so many online resources back then! (There were none.) Are you a teacher?

Yeah – it’s horrible when there are no online resources. There is a particular lack of resources for HSC ESL English both online and in book stores!

      No, I’m just a tutor.

Excuse me if I’m wrong, but I recall you including the annotated versions of a few of these poems. Do you happen to still have the links to them?

Sorry, no – I think whichever website they were on took them down, so I had to replace the links.

thaaaanks a billion. have been looking for ages, what would u recommend out of these poems is best to use for the concept of belonging? thanks

It really depends on what your idea of belonging (your thesis) is and which poem you understand best.

Personally, I would go with Feliks Skrzynecki and 10 Mary Street, because they have quite a lot in them that you can discuss in terms of techniques and concepts. Also Feliks Skrzynecki is good because it explores belonging on 2 levels: Peter’s belonging and Feliks’ belonging, whereas other poems tend to be more simple.

I find Ancestors and In the Folk Museum a bit confusing/vague in parts (eg. the end of Ancestors) and they are also the shorter of the poems – so they are harder to discuss for me. And I don’t really like St Patrick’s College either for some reason…
